William Owens

Will is part of the latest batch of synthetic biology apprentices.

Will received his B.S. in Computer Science and B.S. Microbiology from the University of Florida. As an undergrad, he was a member of Michael Kladde's lab, where he developed high-throughput bioinformatic tools to explore epigenomic data. For his thesis, he used CRISPR/cas9 to profile a mismatch repair gene enhancer.

He also was a founding member of iGEM Team UFlorida 2018, a student-led synthetic biology team that engineered a novel gut probiotic and won UF's first ever medal from the competition.

Will likes reading, backpacking, (social distanced) weightlifting, and—obviously—programming.
