Octant is looking for a chemical inventory manager. You're a chemist excited to support a next-generation platform that automates the chemical synthesis and analysis of thousands of drug-like organic compounds. Whether you're a recent graduate or have years of industry experience, you're motivated by our mission to advance the discovery of drugs to treat complex diseases.

You love working in the lab, have strong synthetic and analytical chemistry skills, and look forward to working with robots as well as people. You are keenly organized and take pride in your work. You thrive on getting things done, are eager to troubleshoot random tasks that arise in startups, and can navigate the uncertainty of an ever-changing and fast-paced environment.

As a part of Octant's chemistry team, you'll:

  • Build and execute workflows that ensure Octant's collection of tens of thousands of unique chemical compounds are exposed and available to discovery scientists as they need them.
  • Build and execute protocols for routine quality control of our compound inventory, both those in high-throughput formats and those in more traditional formats.
  • Learn to carry out high-throughput synthesis of 10,000s of compounds per week and to assay the quality of these syntheses.
  • Register our inventory, and associated data, into online databases.
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis of our compound collections using LC-HRMS.
  • Operate liquid-handling robots to dispense our compounds into formats suitable for discovery.
  • Experience the multiple facets of a startup, including recruiting, planning technical strategy, and building out new teams and facilities.

  • Are interested in applying for advances in robotics and lab automation to compound storage, manipulation, and quality control.
  • Have experience using LC-MS for the analysis of small organic molecules.
  • Have strong opinions on how analytical data should be stored and represented in order to best support early and clinical-stage drug discovery.
  • Enjoy working in the lab and are excited to learn, develop, and deploy novel protocols that impact Octant's drug discovery workflows.
  • Are detail-oriented and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, team-oriented startup environment.
